WhatsApp has changed its privacy policy to let businesses send messages to people using the service. The company suggested messages normally sent by SMS text message – such as flight alerts from airlines – could be sent on WhatsApp instead. It said companies would be able to send appointment information and delivery notifications, and would also allow ‘marketing’ messages. WhatsApp insisted it would not display banner adverts in the app.
